IAEA loses one of its own

21 March 2025 | David Punter

We are sad to announce the sudden passing of one of our former Presidents, Tom James from Shrewsbury.

IAEA loses one of its own

Tom was president for the IAEA between 1998-1999 and would have been an integral part of the IAEA Executive team from 1996-2001 making some key decisions during his time.

I had the pleasure of meeting Tom at the 90th Anniversary of the institute and he was very complimentary of the current operation, and I was very thankful of his efforts with me being a member at that time.

Toms' family advise that Tom sadly passed away on the 26th of February, aged 83. He had not been particularly well for the last 12 months, although his passing was still quite sudden.

The funeral is being held at the Shrewsbury Crematorium on the 1st of April at 3-30 PM. and if you want to go on and pass on your respects, then please get in touch with us here at the IAEA and we will connect you.

The Institute and I would like to pass on our deepest heartfelt sympathies and thank Tom for his great work in his time in office.
