Applications for new entrants and recertification:

Please ensure that you meet the criteria as set out in the code of practice for the AQP, which is:
An appropriately qualified person is someone who has a comprehensive technical education and training record, relevant to motor vehicle repair (as you will be tested against this as part of the underpinning knowledge section).
The Application Form is to be completed and sent to salvage@theiaea.org. The application form includes:
  • Personal details.
  • Current employment.
  • Employment history, training and qualifications*
  • Declaration
* IAEA Associate and Member grades and applicants who have passed IMI VDA do not need to complete this section.

The application must be submitted with the appropriate fee. £225 Affiliates and non members, £175 (IAEA Associate and Member Grades)

The application will be confirmed by the IAEA and then the Categorisation of Vehicle Salvage Assessment can be booked.

Booking an Assessment

The assessment is booked direct with a regional exam centre or, for assessment only with the Institute directly via admin@theiaea.org. Candidates will need to contact their nearest centre to make the arrangements and will be required to pay the exam fee (£50) to the centre

Details of the Regional Exam Centres will be included with the application acknowledgement.

The Assessment

The Categorisation of Vehicle Salvage Assessment is a 90-minute online assessment, there are three sections. General Industry knowledge (25 minutes), Code of Practice Knowledge (20 minutes) and Salvage Categorisation (45 minutes). Full details of the assessment can be found in the assessment overview.

The assessment is taken in exam conditions via an online platform either at an exam centre or remotely using either remote invigilation or record and review if taken directly with the Institute. Candidates may not refer to online/hard copy reference material or consult with each other during the assessment

Assessment Results

Candidates will be provided with a pass/fail result at the end of the assessment.

Confirmation of the results will be provided by the IAEA to the candidate direct. Successful candidates will be provided with their Appropriately Qualified Person Unique Identifier.

Retakes

In the event that a candidate fails one or more section, only the section/s where the pass mark was not achieved will have to be retaken, provided this exam session is within three months of the original exam. Candidates retaking failed section/s after three months of the original exam session will have to retake all three sections.

A retake fee is payable to the IAEA (£90) and an exam centre fee of £50. The exam centre fee is payable to the exam centre direct.

Candidates who pass the failed sections will be provided with their Appropriately Qualified Person Unique Identifier.
