September saw strong new vehicle consumer demand drive a 19% increase in enquiries and a 37% increase in orders against the same month in 2020, according to new data from Dealerweb
The used market slowed for the third consecutive month with a 9% decline in enquiries and a 4% fall in orders. The average sold price of a used vehicle increased to £23,400 from £19,356 in 2020.
Commenting on the data, James Hill, managing director of Dealerweb, said: "The data shows that consumers are seemingly prepared to wait for their new vehicles and place orders for delivery many months in advance. The increase in enquiries and orders from 2020 levels further underlines the resilience of dealers across the UK.
"While it appears that shortages of stock and high prices are having an impact on the used sector following a period of record strength in the first half of the year. It's never been more important for dealers build a detailed understanding and profile of each buyer and where they sit in the purchase process, in order maximise every sales opportunity."
Following the recent news of spot checks by the FCA to ensure rules are being followed, Dealerweb is encouraging dealers to make use of its compliance module. It aids FCA compliance by taking the customer through an interactive, on-screen decision tree process and interacts with Dealerweb Showroom's offer creation module to mitigate risk.
