Ivan was the most conscientious, motivated and capable member of the Institute.
Ivan served the Yorkshire Region, first as Secretary, and then for his last five years as Chairman. It was in this latter role that he organised numerous lectures on a wide and varied range of topics to aid engineers in understanding more specialised aspects of the motor industry and repair of vehicles.
Under his reign meetings were regularly exceptionally well attended with between 40 and 70 members being present.
In addition, Ivan also arranged some very popular training days that were full to capacity. He also found time to organise the Yorkshire Region Dinner Dance in Harrogate each winter, for a number of years. This event became popular not only with Yorkshire members but also with a good number of members and their guests coming from the country at large. This event is now well established on the IAEA calendar as a National IAEA Awards Dinner Dance.
Another of Ivan's great achievements was in a venture planned together with Tony Simpson, Terry Rainforth and Andrew Marsh, to promote the IAEA to a wider audience though a National Conference. With his usual flair and enthusiasm, he worked tirelessly to ensure that the event would be successful and a regular national event.
In recognition of all Ivan's various achievements for the Institute, the Executive and Council agreed unanimously to make this special Lifetime Achievement Award to a special man, Ivan Marriott, in the year of his death in 2017.
