Claims dip after Easter

The latest collision repair industry report from The CAPS Consortium, covering unique claims and supply chain transmissions for the week ending 10 April, shows both have dipped 3% since the previous week

Claims dip after easter break

The new figures are 77% for unique claims and 87% for supply chain transmissions and are measured against the peak of claims recorded across the CAPS platform in the first week of November 2020.

Two of the factors causing these fluctuations include the delay in claims exchanged caused by the Easter bank holidays and bodyshops reporting a continued reduction in workforce due to flexi-furlough.

CAPS commercial manager Kevern Thompson said: "The analysis shows a slight decline against an increase in reported traffic volumes. It should also be noted that CAPS is measured based on claims exchanged and not necessarily new claims reported, therefore we expect a lag in our reporting-analysis.

"In the report we have also included the March month-end analysis, which shows unique claims volume measured against the January 2020 pre-pandemic peak. Furthermore, the current weekly reported figure measured against the pre-pandemic week ending 14 February 2020 is 50% of the 2020 peak measured," added Thompson.
